Nelson, Wagner carry Tampa to 4-1 win over St. Lucie

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Brandon Wagner homered and had two hits, driving in two, and Nick Nelson hurled seven scoreless innings as the Tampa Tarpons beat the St. Lucie Mets 4-1 on Wednesday.

St. Lucie had runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, but Anthony Dimino grounded out to end the game.

Nelson (2-2) allowed three hits while striking out three and walking two to pick up the win.

Tampa started the scoring in the second inning when Ryan Lidge hit a two-run home run.

After Tampa added two runs, the Mets cut into the deficit in the ninth inning when Dash Winningham hit an RBI single, bringing home Michael Paez.

Michael Gibbons (0-3) went five innings, allowing three runs and four hits in the Florida State League game. He also struck out two and walked five.
