GRAND OPENING: The developer Housing Trust Group celebrated the grand opening of Park at Wellington, a $37.9 million affordable housing community in Holiday, March 13. The community, at 4205 Jordana Way, creates 220 affordable apartments for families and individuals earning at or below 60 percent and 40 percent of the area median income. The community will offer residents a supervised and structured after-school program for children, as well as free employment-assistance workshops. The project team included architect Fugleberg Koch, civil engineer High Point Engineering and general contractor Hennessy Construction.

BANK OPENS NEW BRANCH: On March 10, First National Bank of Pasco celebrated the opening of its newest branch at 23613 State Road 54 in Lutz, and kicked off its Kids First Initiative. The event offered free food, piggy banks and a bounce house for kids, and was the public grand opening of its new 3,000-square-foot branch designed to show how the bank plans to put “kids first” in the community. With each new account, the bank will donate $25 to the school of the customer’s choice to help serve children in need. The branch lobby is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

NURSING UNIT RECOGNIZED: Medical Center of Trinity’s 2 West Nursing Unit was recognized as the highest-performing medical/surgical unit in HCA. The unit is under the direction of registered nurse Emy Santos, nurse director, and registered nurse Greg Kennedy, nurse manager. The Unit of Distinction award recognizes and celebrates the individual departments defining excellence in medical-surgical nursing.

ASSOCIATE CHIEF NURSING OFFICER APPOINTED: Certified emergency nurse Cathy Lowe recently was appointed associate chief nursing officer at Medical Center of Trinity. Lowe comes to the hospital from the HealthTrust Transitional Leadership program, where she served as interim director of emergency services at multiple HCA sites for the past three years. She has 17 years of nursing experience.

HEALTH TRAINING BUSINESS OPENS: Red White Blue CPR, a new training company serving Pasco, Hillsborough, Orange, Osceola, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Sumter and Hernando counties, recently opened at 37837 Meridian Ave., Suite 309, Dade City. Aprile Snyder, owner/instructor, participates in Pasco Economic Development Council’s SMARTstart program. Snyder offers CPR, first aid, automated external defibrillator, and bloodborne pathogens training at her facility and offers mobile training at your location. SPONSORS NEEDED FOR NETWORKING FESTIVAL: The Pasco Economic Development Council is looking for sponsors for its annual NetFest networking festival, 5 to 8 p.m. April 5 at Epperson (Lagoon Community), 7851 Curley Road, Wesley Chapel. The event, with a new Caribbean cowboy theme, provides companies an opportunity to support economic development and get exposure to hundreds of business and community leaders.

Tickets are $30 for Pasco County staff; $40 for Pasco EDC investors and guests, and $50 for others.
